Steps to Format USB to NFTS or FAT32 with CMD

Altogether, we will try to complete the whole formatting process in few simple steps and the time taken to format the USB drive is depend on your Computer and your USB flash drive. ( These steps are only working in Window 7, 8, 8.1 and 10 PC.)

STEP 1 : Type cmd in the search box then you will get a match named Command Prompt. Right-click on it and choose “Run as administrator“.

Step 2 : When the Command Prompt window appears, type diskpart and press “Enter”. When your Computer enters the diskpart section, Type list disk and press ‘Enter’. According to list disk information, check which disk is your USB Drive. For example, your USB drive is disk 2 you can enter “select disk 2” and press enter to forward the process.

Step 3 : Type “clean” in this step. Wait for some time for disk cleaning. When it is completed type “create partition primary” and press enter. After the diskpart successfully created the partition , type format Fs=NFTS and press enter. If you are using the other version of file system formats, change the command NFTS to the desired one, like format fs=fat32.

Step 4 : Type “assign” to add a drive letter for the USB flash drive.

After this you can exit Diskpart and now you can save data to your USB flash drive again.

$ Fix Errors while using DiskPart Format Command

If you are getting errors while using CMD to format USB flash drives or other devices error, than you can solve your problems. I have collected two common errors that occurs in formatting, and you can follow the provided solutions to resolve them.

Error 1 : Diskpart format fs = ntfs stuck at 0, 10, 11, 12…

If you are also getting this error in diskpart, as shown message, don’t worry. Just wait for the process to complete.

Error 2 : Diskpart has enocuntered an error: Access is denied. See the System Event Log for more information.
